A rather long walk on varied terrain with many glacial features and a variety of plant & animal species. Blazed in white paint, with occasional old red fleur-de-lis.
From North to South, departs from Hammond Brook Trail in Joe English Reservation; crosses brook and climbs to ridge; descends gradually to Austin Road. Passes west of Transfer Station (trail relocated) and east of Gowing Woods development to a landing on Dodge Road, then south along esker and old road; crosses Fieldstone Drive and continues on old road to its terminus on Dodge Road.
The Amherst Walk Book contains more information about this trail .
Mountain bikers please note: The northern section is a tough ride so biking is allowed on the Hemlock Trail (on Joe English Reservation) as an alternate route (or to make a loop). NO OTHER JOE ENGLISH TRAILS ALLOW BIKES. Thanks for your cooperation.
